COX CONSERVES
Clean, Smart & Water Efficient
In 2018, Cox Automotive’s Manheim Texas Hobby location in Houston was the site of some our
most significant recent water stewardship efforts. The Hobby system uses a high-tech, four-step
wastewater reprocessing technology similar to that used at several other Manheim locations.

Texas Manheim Hobby also constructed a $4.2 million TRUEGRID permeable
paving system on a 15-acre lot to provide an eco-friendly alternative to concrete
or asphalt. Manufactured from 100 percent postconsumer recycled high-
density polyethylene, the pavers stay cooler than traditional surfaces and
reduce the urban heat island effect. The new paving system is fully permeable,
so rainwater drains instantly and naturally, significantly reducing surface runoff.
Cox has a major presence in Arizona, where the Verde River supplies roughly
30 percent of metro Phoenix’s surface water. An integrated water stewardship
program has been implemented aimed at improving water management
throughout the river basin. Partnering with The Nature Conservancy and the
Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Cox Automotive’s new investment in the
initiative supports the conversion of 25 acres of agricultural land to more efficient
micro-jet irrigation, a modification that saves 15 million gallons of water annually.
