Emergency Medicine Services at Texoma Medical Center (TMC) are Comprehensive and Growing Physicians and Other Clinical Staff Specialize in treating both Major and Minor Injuries and Illnesses A dedicated Fast Track Unit is designed to meet the urgent care needs of its patients quickly. This service is for patients experiencing minor illnesses, such as fever, due to the flu, sore throat, ear infection or other condition, and for injuries, such as minor scrapes and sprains. The clinical team of the Fast Track unit specializes in streamlining care to help patients feel better as quickly as possible. The hospital is also fully equipped for patients’ serious medical concerns, including stroke, heart attack and trauma. For each of these, an alert system is in place to let hospital staff know that a critically ill or injured person is on the way and needs treatment fast. Stroke Care TMC is a Level II Primary Stroke Facility, designated by the Texas Department of Health Services and a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. This means that a 24-hour stroke team and trained emergency department personnel are always ready to provide care in the hospital’s designated stroke units. Ambulance personnel alert hospital staff that a patient with possible stroke is on the way. TMC also recently added a Neuro- Interventional Suite with biplane angiography for advanced diagnosis and other clinical staff specialize in treating the most serious trauma- related cases, including: • Motor vehicle and farm equipment acci- dents • Sports-related and machine injuries • Large animal attacks and snake bites • Lacerations • Falls and more and treatment of stroke and other complex vascular brain issues. TMC is the first in the region to offer biplane angiography for stroke. Cardiovascular Care The Texoma Heart Institute is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention). This means that it is nationally recognized for heart care and stands ready to take on cardiac emergencies. Again, ambulance personnel are trained to treat patients on the way, and a specialized team is ready when the patient arrives to the emergency department. TMC: Most Experienced Level III Trauma Center in the Region As the first designated Level III Trauma Center in the region, TMC’s emergency department provides patients with access to critical personnel that a regular emergency department does not. This includes 24-hour immediate access to emergency medicine physicians and specialists. Physicians And since there is an alert system available to TMC as a Level III Trauma Center, the process for getting ready for the patient is in motion before the patient arrives. The TMC Emergency Department Is Expanding to Meet the Growing Needs of its Community After more than a year of construction, the TMC hospital expansion project is nearing completion. The project will add nearly 108,000 square feet to the main campus at TMC and includes: A Larger Emergency Department: • Patient rooms will double to 48 • Two new trauma rooms will be added • A new 16-bed chest pain unit • Dedicated computed tomography suite (CT) and dedicated imaging suite Physicians are on the medical staff of Texoma Medical Center, but, with limited exceptions, are independent practitioners who are not employees or agents of Texoma Medical Center.
