May 6, 2017: Dr. Aranda III represented TACHE at the Lubbock Cinco de Mayo Parade where
we featured Miss Texas, Velia Mendoza, a TTU graduating senior, as well as current freshmen
and sophomores from Texas Tech University. This year's Cinco de Mayo Parade, hosted by
Los Hermanos Familia & Latino Lubbock Magazine, featured many colorful floats. The theme
was "Children are the Future, Los Niños son el futuro." As Chicanos who foster the
educational and employment opportunities of Latinas/os in Higher Education, I felt it was
essential for our young Lubbock Latino children to see the emerging Latinas/os currently in
higher education so that they too can realize that education for all Latinos is a possibility.
