Regional Activity Highlights In addition, a group of current WT students served on a panel in which they were able to speak about their experiences as first-generation students (what challenges they face, what their support system looks like, what it takes to thrive in college and what a high school student can do to be better prepared for college). Most importantly, we had a group of parents who served on a panel and were able to describe their experience as they sent their child off to school and how they were able to support their academic pursuits. The program was a huge success, primarily because of the participation and leadership of a number of students, staff, and faculty on our campus. This program was presented on the weekend. Therefore, everyone volunteered their time to the project. Dr. Elsa Diego-Medrano was instrumental in making this program a success. As a result of her efforts, the program had a profound impact on the students and their families. Dr. Diego-Medrano helped to organize many of the presentations as well as identify current students and parents to serve on the panels. In addition, she served as the primary facilitator for the entire program. It was a pleasure to be able to work with Dr. Diego-Medrano on this program. She certainly exemplifies the best of West Texas A&M University. Jon Davis Assistant Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement and Success West Texas A&M University 15
