Obvious Light By Erika Allanis Adelet D. Rafael Life is just another lie we live amidst the moving world: the breathing lives and witnessing souls. The humming of the wind balances the noise of the city. In real life, the cries of those who seek honesty covet for the truth from the piercing shouts of deceivers. It is in silence that causes the truth to uncover. The night sits still –calm and pleasant. As the stars flicker, the truth slowly illuminates. Stars are the truth to every lie. You don’t see or hear them all the time but it’s just there sitting, waiting to be revealed. Just like how the sun and clouds overpower and conceal the stars at day, the truth may be kept –but not for long. In the dimmest hours, we always get a glimpse of the truth and then we know. It’s within the stories we create that defy the worlds we think we deserve and the worlds we think we are in. And whether or not the stories mean something, it takes us away from the memories that haunt us. We invent stories because we choose to escape. We invent stories because we choose to be different people. We lie because we think it’s a better option. Stars shine awfully bright at night but when daylight comes, we realize that the brightest and nearest star is the real truth behind it all. The obvious light becomes the answer to every mystery, the answer to every question. Unwrapping Mr. Intramurals By: Denise Congson “He’s eye candy.” “Totally eye candy.” “I’m what candy-?” questions the confused, but exceptionally handsome Mr. Intramurals winner Jhon Florialle K. Juliano in an interview a month after coronation last January 18. “I didn’t expect I’d win,” he confided with an honest smile, “I wasn’t confident with the way I answered the questionsI was surprised when I was chosen to be Mr. Intramurals.” Florialle or JJ is a living metaphor that just talk won’t get you anywhere. Though this shouldn’t imply that our current reigning man has nothing to offer. Besides his humble aura and gentlemanly nature, he is quite insightful and very passionate about arts, one of the key points that had also brought him to the top in the competition after playing the piano piece “He’s a Pirate” from the blockbuster movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Teachers often describe JJ as charming, cute, and humble; the type that strides out the stage and leaves the audience baffled with a silent “wow” slipping out of their lips. “His presence leaves an impression,” Teacher Reuben, coordinator of the event said as he tried to recall what he felt exactly when our resident ‘Mr. Perfect’ took a step on stage. “The way he projects himself and the way he stands show how manly he is.” “Of course I was nervous.” In spite of the answer, JJ stated it quite confidently. “I was excited though.” “It’s a game for everyone.” Teacher Reuben said. “As long as they possess the needed qualities and have confindence in themselves, they can become the next winners.” Unfortunately though, “Mr. Perfect” left no tips - only saying “just wing it”. Sleepless nights plague me, nights in which I find myself with my eyes strained on the monitor as I fight sweet succulent slumber only to speak to them. Each day I am impatiently waiting for the hours to pass. I walk around the halls like a zombie and as soon as I am called to go home, I excitedly look forward to yet again booting up my laptop to spend time with them. Timezones are annoying. Sometimes I wish they never existed so I don’t have to memorize when they’re awake or when they’re asleep. Why is it that someone you’re so connected to lives seas apart from your physical being? Is it too much to ask for when I want to be where they are like physical friends are there for me? Is it bad that I want to be by their side even if it’s just for a second? Is it taboo to say that online friendships are just as real as physical ones? Is
