Chapter  4:  Context  and  contextual  changes     receive   80   percent   of   the   annual   rainfall   during   the   winter   months,   while   rainfall   in   the   highlands   (such   as   Ta’izz  and  Sana’a)  follows  two  distinct  rainy  seasons  (the  saif:  April-­‐May  and  the  kharif  (July-­‐September).     Yemen   can   be   divided   into   six   agro-­‐ecological   zones   (see   Figure   4.14),   with   different   climatic   characteristics   as   well  as  the  types  of  (agricultural)  land  use,  and  thus  water  demand  (and  availability).  It  is,  therefore,  almost   impossible  to  generalize  climatic  conditions  and  possible  scenarios  for  Yemen  as  a  country.     Figure  4.12:  Annual  precipitation     Source:  WFP  2009     The Political Economy in Yemen of Water Management: Conflict Analysis and Recommendations  70  of  241
