The following alumni and friends of St. Francis College have recently passed away. We pray for the repose of their souls. Requiescant in Pacem.
SFC Mourns the Loss of Dr. Arthur Hughes
D
r. Arthur Hughes, a History
Professor at St. Francis College
for 47 years passed away July 9.
He was a member of the College’s
Duns Scotus Honor Society and was
well known for his lecture series which
was open not just to students but to all
members of the community.
St. Francis hosted a memorial mass
on October 23 in his honor.
Dr. Hughes wrote the textbooks,
Man in Time, American Government,
and The American Presidency, as well
as the biography Richard M. Nixon,
for which he was invited to the White
House. He has also written novels,
including Crispus Attucks, and Patrick
Callahan: A Life in Brooklyn. Dr. Hughes was an inveterate poet, who in addition to
his yearly Christmas poem, wrote many collections of poems, especially on birds.
Arthur Hughes was 85.
