UP FRONT editor’s note Craving more than exercise in the new year T hink about this: You’ve just come in from a long winter walk in the snow at Hawthorn Park. Or, you decided to take the kids to the playground because they were crawling up the walls and needed some fresh air. They insisted you pull them around in a sled and make snow angels. Or, maybe you’ve been hard at work all day and all you can think about is getting home, throwing on some comfy clothes and making yourself a giant ... bowl ... of ... soup. It’s that time of year. And guess what? Some of the best restaurants in your town have graciously shared their recipes in this edition of Terre Haute Living. So there’s no guessing, just picking which you’d like to make, or try, if you want to visit the estab- lishments themselves. The recipes start on page 30. Don’t forget our regular food col- umn, Good Eats: Fitness columnist Erin Gregory brings you a recipe of Slow Cooker Turkey Meatballs with Spaghetti Squash for a lighter meal, on page 12. And as always, Clabber Girl Alicia Morgan shares a decadent recipe, of their Irish Cream Truffles, on page 14. But that’s not all! There is a group of women in Terre Haute making names for themselves as chefs and we thought it was the perfect time to highlight their special- ties. Check out our profiles of more than a dozen chefs, starting on page 22. OK, so I know what you’re thinking. It’s finally January, all those holiday meals and sweets are in our tummies and the last thing we want to be thinking about is food! We want to be well, find a fitness routine and stick with it. But hear me out: You can still do that and enjoy food. In fact, if you don’t allow yourself a treat, you’re less likely to stick with your new routine. We still have some advice for the fit-minded. So, before, or after you chow down, read our story about the benefits of staying active in the winter months (page 46). See, you can have your cake — or soup — and eat it, too! Enjoy!
