FEATURES On a MISSION to help others “ If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.” Tiffany Hecklinski beats cancer, becomes advocate WORDS: KATIE SHANE PHOTOGRAPHY: AUSTEN LEAKE S he’s been called a “miracle” by doctors after being diagnosed with colon cancer at just 37 years old. Not only was the diagnosis unbelievable – with no family history or traditional symptoms – but so is what survivor Tiffany Heck- linski has been doing since beating the disease in 2012. “Cancer has taken me on an interesting journey,” Heck- linski says while sitting in the office of Dr. Rajiv Sharma at Digestive Health Associates. Hecklinski and Sharma, who met while on a panel at Indiana University School of Medicine, have joined forces to advocate and educate people on the causes, risks and prevention options of colon cancer. Heck- linski works as a speaker, while also teaching at IU School of Medicine and working on her doctorate.
