UP FRONT editor’s note Saluting our heroes W e go about our daily lives, whether walking into a grocery store, to our car after work, or watching our kids on the soccer fields, and we feel safe. We don’t think twice about whether we need to worry about danger lurking around the corner. It’s not that we take for granted that we live in a community where always watching our backs isn’t at the front of our minds. But the reality is, without those who have decided to make it their life’s work to serve and protect, no matter the time of day or night, none of us would live as comfortably as we do. In this edition of Terre Haute Living, we pay special tribute to the heroes of our community, that although outfitted with the training and gear necessary, don’t count capes as neces- sary. Of course there isn’t room to write profiles of every entity in the community, but we hope that the stories you read on the following Alicia Morgan pages represent a sufficient grouping and showcase just how important every aspect of their jobs is. ✩✩✩ In addition, this issue also includes a profile on LPGA golfer Amy Olson, who, with her husband, has decided to make Terre Haute her home base, page 28. Volunteer Also, a feature on the Jeep Junkies demonstrates just how special “Jeep peo- ple” are. “Jeep people are really a different breed,” Wabash Valley Jeep Junkies founder and longtime WTHI-TV videographer Mike Latta says. But, the passion of the group, with more than 2,500 members on Facebook, goes beyond just a love of Jeeps. Find out more, page 42. Also, escape to nature close to home, page 34; learn what Haute Initiative has been up to, page 40; and get ready for the Terre Haute Air show, page 50.
