Even though you may say Google provides all your
answers to life, for this certain subject you must a get
hands-on experience. To gather more information on
this subject, I turned to my friend, Natalie, and
interviewed her about what it’s like to be a
synesthete. Check out our interview!
Interview
Women are three times more likely to get Synesthesia
Synesthesia is different for everybody ex. Listening to
Beethoven may taste like chocolate, while others may
say it tastes like strawberries.
Synesthesia may develop suddenly
People may have it from birth
Scientists and experts still don’t know what causes
Synesthesia
Sophia: “What types of Synesthesia do you
have?”
N: “I see words and hear sounds in color,
certain words have a taste or smell, and I can
see people’s ‘auras’.” (Natalie has Grapheme
Color Synesthesia, Chromesthesia, and
Lexical Gustatory Synesthesia)
S: “What’s the best thing about having
Synesthesia?”
N: “The best thing about having Synesthesia is
that I can read fast and I can remember
names easily.”
S: “What’s the worst thing about
Synesthesia?”
N: “Sometimes having it can be overwhelming
when a lot of people are talking at once,
because then I can’t focus at all. It also makes
me uncomfortable being around people with
certain ‘auras’ for like no reason other than
the fact I don’t like their aura. And I get this
certain feeling where I taste frozen waffles
and I really hate frozen waffles.”
S: “In your opinion, what’s the biggest
stereotype/myth about Synesthesia?”
N: “Some people believe it’s all in your head,
when in reality, some people with
Synesthesia actually see the colors in real
life.”
S: “What’s it like having it?
N: “Normal to me! I’ve had it for as long as I
could remember and I don’t know what it’s
like to not have it.”
Only a few types of Synesthesia have been evaluated ~Many synesthetes do not even know that
they have Synesthesia because they have
never known any other perceptions of the
world. This makes it very difficult to collect
accurate data on synesthetes since very few
of them know that they have it.~
Synesthesia may be acquired genetically, but is still
debated on Wanna check if you have it? Check out the
