A small noise escaped my mouth as yet another person pushed me down onto the lockers . They snickered and walked away , leaving me there . I stood up and dusted myself off , pretending like it never happened .
“ Hey are you okay ?” Someone called out to me . I looked over and blushed , seeing my crush looking back at me .
“ Yes I ’ m fine , thank you .” They started walking towards me and I felt my face heat up from embarrassment .
“ I ’ m sorry about that , I ’ ll ask them to stop if you ’ d like .” they offered , a gentle smile onto their face .
I shook my head , “ Oh no that ’ s alright , I really wouldn ’ t wanna drag you into this .” I quickly said , holding my arms out in front of me and shaking them . They opened their mouth to respond but started to scurry out the hall before they even got the chance to speak .
“ You taking anyone to the Homecoming Dance ?” My friend , Andrea , asked me , and I just shook my head .
“ No one here is exactly my preference , and even if someone was , I highly assume I ’ m not their type ,” I reasoned with her . “ But it ’ s our senior year . You have to go . It ’ s tonight !” I rolled my eyes at her and closed my locker shut . “ No thanks . End of discussion .” A glum look made its way onto her face as she mumbled a
“ fine .” I walked out onto the courtyard and turned my head as I heard my name being called . “ Ethan ! That ’ s your name right ?” I froze in my spot as I realized that my crush had been the one calling out to me .
“ Yeah , th-that ’ s me ,” I stuttered , mentally shaking my head at my discomposure . “ Why are you asking ?” They smiled at me , with that oh-so beautiful smile , “ Oh well , I was just wondering if you ’ d like to spend lunch with me today ? I ’ d really appreciate it if you said yes ,” Their eyes glimmered in the sunlight as they asked with a hopeful tone . I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out , I was so anxious my body was shaking . My mouth refused to open and all I could do was nod from the shock overtaking me , my head still processing what just happened . They smiled brightly and grabbed my wrist , dragging me away to their table . From the corner of my eye , I could see Andrea give me a thumbs up and I just shrugged her off , rolling my eyes once again .
I gingerly sat down on the cafeteria bench , sitting in between them and their friend . My leg bounced on the floor , sweat dripping down the back of my neck , I was nervous , if it wasn ’ t obvious .
