An Interview with Mr. Washington
Covina High School Counselor
Mr. Washington is one of the counselors at Covina High School. He knows a lot about
Covina high, and he can help you get through high school. We interviewed him to find
out what students need to know about this next step in their lives- high school. Why not
get ahead and learn as much about High school as you can?
Teen Titans: Can you explain a little bit
about what you do at Covina High?
Washington: As counselors we are basically
here to guide you. We work with students
with their academics, social or emotional
issues and college careers.
Teen Titans: What kind of things should
middle school students be prepared for
before entering high school?
Just a little bit about the change about the
higher expectations, Entering high school is
just like entering 6th grade coming from 5th
grade
Teen Titans: How much tougher do you
think high school is to middle school based
on your experience working with students
and as a former student yourself?
Washington: As a student it can be difficult
but for a variety of reasons. There are
higher expectations, more things to do,
more time spent outside of school and the
rigor of classes.
Teen Titans: How challenging is it to
transition from Traweek to Covina High?
Washington: It is really easy. The counselor
will be there to help the 8th graders In
March We hope for you what we will expect
for you.
Teen Titans:
What are the requirements to
graduate from any High School?
Washington: That will change with the school but
basically we want all students to meet the A-G
requirements, and you'll have to take 4 years of
math, 4 years of english, 3 years of science. It all
You need 220 credits to graduate. You get
credits by passing classes. There are 5 credits
for each semester that you pass a class.
Teen Titans: How often do kids come and see
you, and what different topics do they bring
up, or talk to you about.
Washington: It kind of varies. But very often
kids come in and see me. They normally ask
about academics or something that is going
on personally or socially, or they’ll have
questions about college, how to pick a major,
and stuff like that.
