 grupamento de Escolas do Viso –

Porto - Portugal, is a public school

of general education, with 800

students, that range from the first

to the ninth grade (5 to 15 years of age). Our students are distributed by four schools, geographically dispersed but not very far apart. The Director is responsible for the pedagogical coordination and making sure there is a conducting line within all curricular and non curricular activities.

Depending on the demand, we also provide professional education. This year we have a group of students that parallel to their academic studies the aims the conclusion of the 9th grade, are learning a trade in gardening.

Specific social context

Our aim in participating in a European cooperation between schools, is to create European citizens, open to other cultures; to promote tolerance and mutual understanding between peoples of different linguistic and socio-cultural backgrounds and to reduce stereotyping;

to realize that European Community doesn’t mean losing our own identity, culture and traditions;

We have some experience in international co-operation (we have participated in previous Comenius Projects) and it is our objective to exchange ideas and gain knowledge through new projects and participating in educational tasks and mobility. We strongly believe that partnerships with other schools in Europe will help our students become more tolerant towards different aspects of life such as religion or tradition.

It is also our aim to share our culture with other partner schools and disclose our educational system and hopefully allow students and teachers, who will play a significant role in the process of European integration, to gain more knowledge, and to experience and understand the variety of culture and history that surrounds us.
