Appendix III TASKS FOR LESSON 1 Task 1 The children from our partner school in Wales sent us a traditional recipe. Read the recipe and answer the questions that follow: Ingredients 1 kilo of cherries 1 litre of water 1 kilo of sugar 1 lemon Equipment a saucepan a strainer a plastic bowl a grater Process Wash the cherries under running water. Use a nail to take out the stones. Place them in a saucepan and cover with water. Boil for 10 minutes. Then strain the fruit and take the juice. Grate the lemon peel and take one teaspoon of the peel. Put the juice, the sugar and the lemon peel into the saucepan again and boil for another ten minutes. Pour the mixture onto the cherries and leave to cool. Serve in small plates. 1. What fruit do we need to make the recipe? 2. Why do you think the children sent you this recipe? 3. Why do we write down recipes? Is it difficult to remember them? Why? 62
