communicative purpose.

relate their personal experiences to new knowledge so that they can
comprehend easier.
feel more comfortable with natural spoken language even if they do not
understand everything.
listen for general meaning
listen for detail
understand the sequence of events in a narrative
integrate listening with speaking and writing
understand the differences between spoken and written language
Students’ background: There are 19 students in the class. They are all aged 12.It is a
mixed ability class with some children attending afternoon classes and others who do
not. There are many who underachieve and look indifferent. Students have been
taught the past tense.
Anticipated problems: Listening to long streams of live language is something new
to the children. In addition they are not used to listening to monologues as their
textbook usually contains short dialogues .They usually try to understand every word
so they ask for a repetition when they miss something or they do not understand it.
