Section II The aim of this section is to put theory into practice by presenting two lessons which were prepared according to the criteria analyzed in Part I. Lesson 1 is based on a monologue while Lesson 2 is based on a dialogue. They are described below. 2. Lesson 1 2.1The aims of the lesson The aims of the lesson were:  to train students comprehend spoken language used for authentic purposes  to help them understand the transactional function of monologue  to read flexibly  to use the information they acquire for communicative purposes 2.2. The objectives At the end of the lesson student would be able to:  relate their personal experiences to new knowledge so that they can comprehend easier  feel more comfortable with natural spoken language even if they do not understand everything  listen for general meaning  listen for detail  understand the sequence of events in a narrative  integrate listening with speaking and writing  understand the differences between spoken and written language 2.3. General information The lesson is based on a monologue which was delivered live by the teacher (for a transcription of the monologue see appendix II p. iv). It is based on a real story which the teacher modified so that it can sound more interesting to the students. While planning the lesson the teacher made some notes containing the basic steps of the story and the main information in the form of a grid and a flow diagram. While he 17
