1 . consonant + vowel
Making Korean letters using Consonants and Vowels
When a vertical vowel ( ㅏ , ㅑ , ㅓ , ㅕ , orㅣ ) is used : A consonant should be placed to the left of the vertical vowel . Ex ) ㅁ + ㅏ = 마 ㅈ + ㅓ = 저 When a horizontal vowel ( ㅗ , ㅛ , ㅜ , ㅠ , or ㅡ ) is used : A consonant should be placed to the top of the horizontal vowel . Ex ) ㅁ + ㅗ = 모 ㅈ + ㅜ = 주
** An ㅇ will be placed in front or top of the vowel when the sound of vowel itself is used . Ex ) ㅇ + ㅏ = 아 ㅇ + ㅗ = 오
2 . consonant + vowel + consonant : The final consonant should be placed underneath the Korean letter .
Ex )
ㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ = 한 ㄱ + ㅜ + ㄱ = 국
3 . consonant + vowel + consonant + consonant : Certain letters requires two final consonant and the two consonants should be placed underneath the Korean letter . In most cases , when the letter is read , the second final consonant becomes silent .
Ex )
ㅁ + ㅏ + ㄴ + ㅎ = 많 ㄱ + ㅜ + ㄹ + ㄱ = 굵
