Teach To One ( TTO ) Vocabulary & Abbreviations !
Math Advisory- consistent groups of students who meet with the same teacher before and after instructional sessions in the Math Lab ; designed to provide a foundational groups for culture building in the Math Lab .
Math Lab- specially designed space where the Teach To One program runs ; optimized to allow for flexible use of different instructional spaces and for rapid transitions between those locations .
Modality- one of eight possible ways that students learn in Teach To One , each modality involves different student grouping , content , delivery methods and expectations for collaboration .
Passed- to Pass a skill , a student demonstrates that he or she thoroughly understands it and can build on the daily skill as a foundation for future learning . Passing is measured as scoring a 4 or 5 out of 5 on a daily exit slip .
Pick up or Pup Session- flexible groupings designed to introduce or to reinforce one skill ; these use a variety of learning modalities so students can learn in different ways ; “ pickup ” comes from “ pickup games of basketball .”
Playlist- the sequence of skills each student encounters during a round .
Schedules- a daily listing of which classes will meet during Sessions , at which location in the Math Lab they will meet ; which teachers will be teaching them and the Modality of each lesson .
Session- a single unit of instructional time or 1 class meeting , usually 35-40 minutes long .
Skill- the basic unit of student learning in TTO ; skills align to lesson objectives ; similar to Common Core “ micro objectives ”.
Staging or Staged Materials- instructional materials printed and distributed to teachers for use in TTO lessons along with supporting manipulatives .
Round- the amount of time required to teach a complete Task and supporting Pickup sessions in student playlists ; approximately 2 weeks .
Task- Task sessions take place over multiple days . Students use a variety of related skills in real world applications .
Transition- designated times when students and teachers move from one instructional location to another or to and from Math Advisory locations and an instructional location ; most schools signal transitions with brief clips of music .
