A Q&A WITH TASBO’S 6,000TH MEMBER AMY STEPHENS, Accounts Payable / Admin Clerk | Little Cypress - Mauriceville CISD During the TASBO Sneak Preview Party at the Annual Conference, TASBO honored Amy Stephens (pictured holding a certificate) as its 6,000th member. Past Board President Pattie Griffin (pictured next to Amy on the right), challenged TASBO to get to 6,000 members when TASBO eclipsed 5,000 members during her term in 2009. Prior to the Annual Conference, Amy Stephens was identified as TASBO’s 6,000th member. Amy received a plaque and a free conference registration for the 2016 TASBO Annual Conference in Dallas. We caught up with Amy and asked her about her experience. Q: How did you hear about TASBO and why did you join? Amy: I was made aware of TASBO within the first month of working at Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD. Everyone was buzzing around the office excited about signing up for the upcoming TASBO conference and I asked them what they were all so excited about. I spoke to my Assistant Superintendent Greg Perry about it and within the hour I was a member of TASBO. Q: What’s been your experience with TASBO so far? Amy: I was really nervous about attending my first local TASBO meeting - it helped that it was the Christmas party, and I would receive a present. Everyone I met was very welcoming, and offered assistance or guidance anytime I may need it. I was even more nervous after I was told I was the 6000th member and would be participating in a photo op at the TASBO conference. Everyone was so friendly and excited about the occasion (especially Pattie Griffin). I did not even think about my nerves once I arrived. Q: Why would you recommend TASBO to your peers? Amy: TASBO is a wonderful organization that connects like-careered school business professionals. Everyone I have connected with is willing to share their knowledge and guidance. 18 TASBO REPORT | MAY 2015 2015-NAS-ad3-OneThird-Size.indd 1 4/22/15 10:11 AM
