The Nativity
" For there is born to you
this day in the city of David
a Savior, who is Christ the
Lord" (Luke 2:11).
Happy Nativity! The feast
of the Nativity is one of the
major feasts in our beautiful
church. The congregation
gather together to celebrate
the birth of our Lord God
and Savior Jesus Christ.
We, as Coptic orthodox,
celebrate
the
Nativity
January 7th ,which is Kiahk
29th because we use Julian
calendar. However, Western
church
celebrates
the
Nativity on December 25th
because they use Gregorian
calendar.
Our church prepares us to
celebrate the Nativity by
asking us to dedicate 43 days
for a holy fasting right before
the Nativity. The 40 days that
the prophet Moses fast in
the old testament to receive
the ten commandments
and the three days as a
commemoration
of
the
miracle of moving the
Muqattam mountain. We too
fast these days to receive
the Word of God that came
to save us from the evil one.
On the Nativity, the Word
of God took what is ours
(our humanity) to give us
opportunity for eternal life.
Our church arranged for us
that throughout the month of
Kiahk all the liturgy’s hymns
45
are focused on the birth
of the Savior of all human
race. The Lord incarnated
and became a man while He
still being the Only-begotten
Son of God.
The birth of our Lord Jesus
Christ marks the beginning
of
a
New
Covenant
between God and us. That
New Covenant has been
established by the slaughter
of the Son of God on the
holy wood of the Cross.
Our Lord Jesus Christ
became a Mediator of the
New Covenant through His
incarnation. This Internal
Covenant is written on our
hearts by the Holy Spirit who
dwells in us and through
It we have received the
forgiveness of our sins.
May the Lord Almighty
grant all of us to perceive
that the Nativity confirmed
God divine love by sending
His Only – begotten Son
incarnate, therefore, we
need to live a life that
glories His holy name.
Amen
