13 Water parameters So, in summary, rams come from soft, warm, acidic waters, and this is what you should try to provide them: pH: pH < 6.5 (acid) Hardness: GH < 4 (very soft) Temperature: 27 – 30 degrees Celsius (very warm) I haven‘t found many details regarding buffering capacity for rams, but I don‘t use conditioning salts so my water has very low buffering capacity. Plus low pH and low GH usually come with low KH anyway: Buffering capacity: KH < 4 (very low alkalinity or buffering capacity)
