Super Producer Joey Cutless

I want more. I feel like I’m proud of my accomplishments but want more. I want to create a movement and a new business model for this new industry and grow from there. Being famous or being in the cool club isn’t a goal for me at all, thats not for me, never has been. I want to revolutionize the music production business model. I want to remain Independent but grow even larger as far as my brand. I also want to get with a major label in an executive capacity, not as a producer necessarily. Stay tuned, it’s coming! lol

Joey thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to sit with Talented to let our readers know more about the man behind the beat. We wish you nothing but continued success in your everlasting career. For more information on Joey Cutless go to JoeyCutless.com

I have a total of 5 beat catalogs including one thats only for high-profile stuff that no one has ever heard online and its 500 beats deep. I built my site myself, from scratch, I also work closely with the production & publishing division of a commercial studio in the DC area, I still actively place music on TV shows, games, and movies myself as well as working with various agencies. I could go on and on, it’s those things that make what I do untouchable unless someone is willing to outwork me. As far as actual beats, I think my capacity to try anything is a plus, I don’t do just rap or only beats with 16 bars etc. I have orchestral compositions, not just beats, even on Joeycutless.com.

Making a beat is like building a 7 layer wedding cake. I experimented with Fruity loops 10 with little luck but what I did learn is that every producer has his own formula. Without giving away too many of your secrets, what is your formula for making that must have beat?

A beat is like a movie. If all the elements don’t create an experience its a failure on many levels. If you saw a great movie, but in certain scenes you could see the guy with the boom stand holding the mic, or the explosions weren’t right, or dialog was off it would ruin the film. Same with beats, If every element doesn’t create a vibe then its just a manufactured product... not an experience.

You’ve produced beats for numerous artist that still are relevant today like Young

jeezy and Jim Jones, is there any other solo artist out there that makes you wonder how would they sound on a Joey Cutless track?

Yeah Bone Thugs definitely. I actually have a cool relationship with alot of the Mo-thug family and been waiting to work on a Bone track. I think if I produced a Bone album it would be unimaginably sick, like E. 1999 type ish. I want to get with Yo Gotti as well, I think that’s potential for something really serious.

With accreditations on billboards from independent artist, TV shows, and millions of plays via soundclick some would say you made it! Talented wants to know what’s next for Joey? What keeps your motor running after accomplishing so much?
