Talented caught up with super producer Joey Cutless at his home in Macon, GA.

to get the inside scoop on what makes his beats so fresh.

Joey, how you doing brother? Thanks for sitting down and doing the interview for Talented, let’s hop right into it like an MC on one of your beats.

Haha, thank you for inviting me and I’m honored.

You know honestly it was completely by accident. I was always doing music as a recording artist. I was in England doing shows in 2001-2002 and I Independently released an album called “London 2 ATL” and it did really well.

Before I knew it people were approaching me asking if I seriously made all the beats, lol. They didn’t believe it so I got invited to some sessions and made some tracks, quickly I realized it was my calling and it was paying. I later came across mp3.com and decided to try to sell beats online as well. Guys like Rock-it productions and Wyshmaster were killin’ it and I wanted in too, lol. Mp3.com folded and soundclick took over so I went there as “Unstopable Productions” in 2002. I was #1 for weeks at a time and I started getting alot of major players calling me. The rest as they say, is history.

You’ve produced tracks for every reality show known to man like Man Vs Food, MTV cribs, Making the Band and the Oprah Winfrey show just to name a few. How did you feel? What went through your mind when you first heard your beat on a primetime TV show?

It’s crazy because I still get the same chills when it happens. I literally can’t watch TV for more than a few minutes and not hear my beats on something while channel surfing. I publicly say I have 3000 TV placements but its actually alot more than that. It’s a blessing man and it allows me to have more freedom as a producer with certain business decisions. I can just do me.

Joey unfortunately the producing game is like the rap game right now, everybody

does it, from the west coast to the east to up north to down south which puts a lot of different styles in one big pot. Talented wants to know, how is your style different than everyone else?

Well I think there are alot of cats who have the “potential” to make better tracks than me, but my work ethic keeps me on top. I have Joeycutless.com with over 300 beats on it, and thats just one catalog of beats that I share online.
