The Humble Penguin is all about fun
accessories! Almost all items from my
shop are made with brightly colored
cotton fabric, because I feel like every day
should have a bit of whimsy. Every item
is designed for daily use, whether it’s a
Bow Clutch Purse, a Mini Wallet, or a Camera Strap
Cover.

products is figuring out a pattern.”
How did your business begin?
While planning my wedding, I wanted to get each of my
bridesmaids a small purse to use at the wedding (and
hopefully beyond the big day). Unfortunately, everything I
found within my budget was not good quality. I’ve always
been crafty, so I decided to make a clutch for each of them.
The clutches were a big hit, and after being asked where
they could be purchased, I decided to start making and
selling them on Etsy! The Bow Clutch has since become
almost synonymous with The Humble Penguin and is the signature style!
What are your favorite design/product trends?
I don’t tend to follow trends – in or outside of my shop. I just
pick what I like and hope other people like it, too! The bright
colors and patterns I use aren’t for everyone, so it’s even
more exciting when someone purchases one of my items.
They’re purchasing something they truly love, rather than
something that is just trendy at the moment!
What advice would you give to someone considering a
similar path?
The best advice for anyone who wants to start a business is to just go for it! You never
know until you try, and there’s no way to fail unless you completely give up on your own
dream.
