Mossy Creek Soap
Bath and Spa Products
After I caught beauty fever from my direct
selling adventures in 2006, my husband
Dan suggested we learn to manufacture
our own products. We decided on
soap because our current soapmaking
supplier was going out of business.
We entertained the idea of buying her business but
ultimately started our own called Mossy Creek Soap.
“I believe a product needs to have outstanding presentation
because we as consumers believe if looks good on the outside
it will be a good in the inside.”
How did your business begin?
In 2009, we made soap together in our kitchen armed
with a Soapmaking Book. At the end of 2010, we outgrew our kitchen operations and opened up Mossy Creek
Soap studio in Warner Robins, Georgia. I began offering
soapmaking classes to supplement our income in the
early days. Our soapmaking classes were a huge success
and at the beginning of 2013, we moved operations to
Perry, Georgia to larger facilities and transformed a
beautiful 1920’s house into our new soapmaking facility.
What’s been your most popular item or line to date?
Our most popular line has been our wedding/shower favors. I enjoy creating each piece
by hand, from the soap to the creation of the label.
What’s the best lesson you have you learned in
running your own business?
Right after opening my first location, I discovered that
customers don’t simply storm your front door to buy
products from you! Ha! It is was then I realized I needed
to offer something else to bring them into my store. My
business has never attracted local buyers. Even after the
opening of my new flagship store, we still have over 60%
of our customer base from out of town.
