Cylene Rainville The Lovely Smith Jewelry I have always been a creative person, but it wasn’t until I was pregnant with my first baby that I decided to take a metalsmithing course. I have always been fascinated by jewelry and the idea of making pieces with form and function. With my background in art therapy and psychology, it was a natural progression to incorporate the two into my artmaking process. “I started ‘The Lovely Smith’ after my sister suggested that I look into online venues for my work. I began selling on Etsy and the rest is history.” What’s the hardest part about running your own business? The most difficult part of running my own business is juggling my day job, family life, and my jewelry making. As a one-woman operation, I handle everything from purchasing materials and design, to manufacturing and packing orders. What’s been your most popular item or line to date? My simple everyday jewelry has always been popular, but my Spinnerette line of designs has definitely been the most rewarding. The items in the collection are designed as fidget jewelry for individuals with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and ADHD. I have attempted to create pieces that are not only functional and textural, but beautiful and stylish as well. What goals do you have in store for the future of your business? My goal is to expand my fidget jewelry line and eventually market on a larger scale to try and help people who struggle with their mental health symptoms. thelovelysmith.ca TAGazine | 7
