Crimson lipped and half asleep,

you turn to gaze at the tall, green bottle.

The flames bounce merrily off the glass,

and the liquid inside glows red, delicious.

It is midnight, you think to yourself.

No one would know.

You dig down between the cushions

of your chair. Between finger and thumb,

the little pocket-demon is rolled,

and lit. Hot ash is tapped

like wispy flakes of snow into terracotta.

No one would know, you assure yourself

as you pour another glass.

The flavours on your tongue dance,

swirl, and spin with the room.

The flavour’s sweet, like Midnight.
