At the heart of it’s recent transformation is The Ace Hotel, an institution known as much for its signature style as it’s almost psychic ability to tune into the vibrations of a city and double down on the next “hot” neighbourhood (before it’s even luke-warm). Located in the historic 1927 United Artists building, The Ace Hotel (929 S Broadway) boasts amenities in, well, spades - Rega turntables, Wing+Horns bathrobes and custom Rudy’s Barbershop toiletries. Who could blame us for slipping a few items into our suitcase? For those who don’t wish to stay in the contemporary rooms or sip Stumptown coffee at local hotspot and lobby bar “Best Girl,” head up to The Ace’s rooftop pool boasting panoramic views of the city (and the dreamers, artists and weirdos that frequent its bar). If S y l v a n u s - Ur b a n . c o m the rest of L.A. wasn’t so damn cool, we’d recommend never leaving the premises. If you forgot to pack your favourite frames head across the street to Gentle Monster (814 S Broadway), a kooky-cool Korean eyewear brand whose street- level storefront looks more like an appointment-only art gallery than retail space. Boasting over 30 food vendors, the food crawl friendly Grand Central Market (317 S Broadway) is a neon-lit dream for those who have commitment issues when it comes to cuisine. Need something to soak up last night’s mezcal-fueled evening? The line at Eggslut is a small price to pay for the best bacon, egg and cheese sandwich you’ll ever have. Madcapra is the place when your taste buds are screaming “falafel, falafel, falafel!” and high-octane G&B Coffee is the perfect fuel if you’re ready for another lap of the market before you tap out.
