Set the wood duck veiling to line up with the end of the hook bend. Make 2 loose wraps and pinch the thread between your thumb and index fingers. Slowly pull the thread tight, directly up or down, whichever is preferred.

Next tie in your ostrich herl on the far side; the finer the stem the better. Make sure when tying in the herl, the stem side faces downward. Wrap forward until the desired fullness is acquired; 4 wraps usually will suffice then tie off and clip neat.
