Take a look at how close my two hands are in this photo as the forward cast starts. It is only from this position that a good forward haul can result. Also, look at the D-loop (or, more accurately, V-loop) shape. The wedge shape ensured I had high line speed and was able to complete the feed on the D-loop stroke, resulting in tension in the line at the start of the forward stroke.
