Swing the Fly Issue 2.2 Fall 2014 | Page 35

When I started searching information about the flies I saw that all of them were very big streamers, with a big head and big eyes. So I tied a few patterns like that, combining different colors. I brought the heaviest rods, reels and lines that I had for trout. I used 8wt rods and 300 grains lines.

After a long trip we were finally there, in that place where I always wanted to be, the land of the “River Tiger“, the Golden Dorado. The first day we stayed in a lodge by the Paraná river, but it was so windy and rainy that we couldn´t fish. The Paraná river is so wide, that the navigation in those conditions is terrible. After some time fishing for Dorado, I also learned that they don´t like the wind. Probably because the water close to the banks gets muddy when the waves are hitting it.

The second day we went to another town by the Paraná river. This place has easier access to the tributary rivers, so the wind wouldn’t bother us so much. We fished small streams, all of them beautiful. The water of these streams was covered with vegetation. We didn´t see any Dorado during the day, we casted to every single meter of bank with no success, not even one strike. For some people it can be very disappointing to not catch fish, but for me it was a great day on the river, that I calculate it is like 1,989 times better than a day in any office! The company was great, the place beautiful, and we ate a barbeque!
