23. At this point, the butts of all the wing materials are very carefully cut close. Steady the wing with your other hand as you are trimming the waste away. You do not want your wing to shift at this point! Resist the urge to build a slope of thread for the head. In this example, I have not added any additional thread wraps, and I touch the ends of the butt materials with a permanent marker. This will help us to keep thread wraps to a minimum while cleaning up the head.

24. Select a Golden Pheasant crest with an appropriate curve. The stem is bent slightly and tied in as shown in figure 24. 3 or 4 good wraps will sure this feather. Do not trim the waste end just yet.

25. The final material to be tied in is the blue and gold Macaw feathers for the horns. I have chosen some relatively flat pieces from a center tail section as shown in figure 25.
