17. The ends of the tippet rachis are placed through the eye of the hook. After 2 firm wraps of thread, a small pin is inserted as shown in figure 17. The ends of the rachis can be pulled straight down, and this will advance the tippet underwing slightly, closing the gap between the body and the underwing. It is very important to have the underwing hug the body of the fly. Figure 17 shows a satisfactory placement of the underwing.

18. After carefully placing those beautiful feathers, now we cut them up! Figure 18 looks barbaric, but this trimming will greatly help facilitate a nice low wing set.

19. 2 more firm wraps, and the waste ends of the tippet can be cut close.
