Swing the Fly Issue 2.1 Summer 2014 | Page 114

I first met Joe and Doelores Saracione by hitching a ride home from San Francisco back to Oregon. Mia had just competed at Spey O Rama and wanted to stay a few more days to be with her sister. I had guide trips and needed to get home. The Saraciones kindly offered a ride. Like many, I had known the reels by reputation and lore. Even though I grew up near where they make the reels I had never had achance to get know the people behind them.

Thankfully the opportunity came to be and now I stop in to say hi often. It gives me a chance to see what’s in the works, eat cookies, and visit with these genuine folks named the Saraciones. Humble, hard working, and down to earth are only a few labels I could put on the many charming qualities they characterize. Knowing them as Mia and I do now, it is only fair to be able to share it with you. I hope you enjoy a few of the questions and answers in the following interview.
