Enrique ' s score of 78 & 72 for a 150 total meant he went one better in the U15 Championship and collected the James Heath Trophy as U15 Champion , with Shergo this time in 2nd and Ben Partridge ( Epsom ) in 3rd .
The standard of golf was excellent and this puts Surrey in a strong position for the future with so many good players in this age group .
All the boys had a fabulous day at West Surrey GC and we thank them for hosting this event , with a special mention to the catering staff who put on a superb BBQ for the boys to tuck into at lunchtime .
Congratulations to 2016 Surrey Champions U16 ’ s Aadam Syed and U15 ’ s Enrique Dimayuga .
The Millard Quaich U18 Championship
After a long spell of extremely wet weather a full field of over sixty single figure players battled their way round a very soft Clandon Regis Golf Club . On the day itself we were lucky enough that the rain had abated but no matter what the greens staff had managed to do there had just been so much rain over the previous few days that this was going to be a tough day for golf let alone Championship golf !
Despite the conditions and five hour rounds the players managed to get both morning and afternoon 18 holes completed .
The winner , Tom Farrow-Smith scored a wonderful 145 ( 70 + 75 ), one less than the CSS of the day , and was only victorious by one shot from Max O ’ Hagan 146 ( 75 + 71 ).
Clandon Regis GC made everyone very welcome and proved an excellent venue for this Championship . The great scoring in very difficult conditions proves that Surrey junior golf is in good shape for the golfing season and years ahead .
Congratulations to the 2016 Surrey U18 Champion Tom Farrow-Smith .
U21 Colts Championship The Surrey U21 Colts Championship was held at Betchworth Park Golf Club on Monday 25th July .
The course was in pristine condition and really challenged the players to score well with some tough pin positions .
The format for this Championship is 36 holes scratch medal and with a full field of 66 players the morning round got underway at 8:30 , with County President Terry Christy and County secretary John Davies acting as starters on the 1st and the 10th .
As the scores came in it was clear that getting a low number wasn ’ t going to be easy by any means , Piers Berrington ( Kingswood ) was the best of the morning with a fine 69 to be the club house leader going into the afternoon round . And he didn ’ t relinquish that lead despite some real pressure from other players , such as Aadam Syed ( Foxhills ) who shot a best of the day 68 , although Aadam ’ s late charge wasn ’ t enough to catch Piers who with a solid afternoon round of 71 fully deserved taking the Championship with a 140 total , two shots clear of Aadam in 2nd and Alexander Inns ( Epsom ) a further four back for 3rd place .
Paul McGinley kindly presented the trophy to Piers , something I ’ m sure he won ’ t forget ! Our thanks to Betchworth Park and all the staff at the Club who looked after everyone so well all day . Congratulations to the 2016 Surrey U21 Colts Champion Piers Berrington .
The Amateur Championship
The Surrey Amateur Championships for 2016 were held over the magnificent neighbouring courses of Banstead Downs and Cuddington during the weekend of June 3rd-5th .
Although the weather on Day one was not the deluge of last year ’ s qualifying round , the players were faced by cold , windy conditions with one commentator stating that June 3rd was actually 1 degree colder than Christmas Day 2015 !! The courses were playing fast despite the significant rain in the week running up to the tournament , with both in excellent condition .
