SIX WEET-BIX SURFGROMS HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME ON THE GOLD COAST PLAY VIDEO SIX Weet-Bix SurfGroms were special VIP guests to the Gold Coast in March when they met and surfed with some of world’s top surfers at Snapper Rocks at the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro. Quiksilver and Roxy are proud partners of the Weet-Bix SurfGroms program and gave the kids an experience dreams are made of. The day included a backstage tour with four-time World Champion Mark Richards in the competitors’ area where the kids had a chance to see how their heroes prepare for a heat. Nikon provided the group with their new amazing KeyMission 170 camera to capture all the action. “The Weet-Bix SurfGroms is a surfing program for 5 to 12-year-old girls and boys and is a wonderful introduction not just to surfing but the ocean,” Richards said on the day. A Weet-Bix SurfGroms lesson in Rainbow Bay put the icing on the cake for the kids who were put through their paces in clean, perfect learner conditions from the likes of Bianca Buitendag and other professional athletes. “My favourite part about Weet-Bix SurfGroms is you get to have a go and they help you go onto bigger waves which is really fun,” said grom Sari Bridgemen. Weet-Bix SurfGroms is the world-first national junior surfing program which offers 5 to 12-year-olds an opportunity to develop strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills, while also developing a proficiency in surfing. More than 55,000 children across Australia have enjoyed the program since it started in October, 2011. Every registered participant had a chance to win a ‘money can’t buy’ trip by providing a photo of themselves enjoying the program through the Nikon KeyMission competition. 026 | Issue 16 // Winter 2017 THE SIX WINNERS WERE: Christopher McKay, 6 – Surfing Services (QLD) Julian McKay, 8 – Surfing Services (QLD) Sari Bridgemen, 9 – Port Stephens Surf School (NSW) Summer Robertson, 9 – Go Ride A Wave (VIC) Jesse Robertson, 8 – Go Ride A Wave (VIC) Khai Cowley, 8 – Surf & Sun (SA) The prize included: flights and transfers to Coolangatta Airport for one child and one adult; one night’s accommodation at Coolangatta for one child and one adult; Weet-Bix pack; Quiksilver or Roxy merchandise pack; exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Snapper Rocks event site; and a Nikon KeyMission 170 camera to capture all the fun; not to mention the opportunity to meet and surf with some Quiksilver and Roxy surfing ambassadors.
