Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd has transformed an historic landmark just yards from its former base in the West Midlands into state-of-the-art offices. The building, which features an iconic clock tower, will become central to a fast-growing nationwide operation. The organisation, which operates 14 plants across the country, has its roots in Willenhall with records showing John Wedge to be running a galvanizing business in the town as long ago as 1869. The company has been based at its current site in Stafford Street since 1876, but has now relocated across the road to the site of the former Central School, which closed more than a decade ago. The clock tower has been refurbished and protected as part of the redevelopment, which now provides modern offices and facilities for more than 20 staff. The work was carried out under the ‘Considerate Constructors’ scheme, with workers taking care to minimise disturbance on the local community. Chris Woolridge, managing director of Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd, said: “It’s great to open our new headquarters on the very street where the foundations of our business began. “We’re also thrilled to have restored the clock tower, which is of great significance to residents of the town. “Our investment will see this historic site, which has been derelict for more than a decade, given a brand new lease of life and the opportunity to be a revered landmark in the community once again.
