publications, tourism boards, safari
operators and lodges across continental
Africa and its islands. She is a former photo

MELANIE VAN ZYL is an adventurous
travel photojournalist with a soft spot for
responsible travel and sustainably sharing
the environment with the wild world.
She’s a registered field guide, budding
twitcher, advanced open water PADI diver,
accredited 4x4 driver and uses these
skills as a photographer and storyteller to
share the delights of travel. She also has
“professional camper” listed on her CV.
For this issue she teamed up with Teagan
Cunniffe to scout out some of South
Africa’s hidden gems (page 34).
