Clockwise from below: Shop till you drop – street art by the infamous
Banksy in London. A sadhu, or holy man, in Varanasi, India. The Faroe

Before you start shooting, do your
research. Some lodges offer pre-dawn
access to Sossusvlei – just in time for
“golden hour” – while others offer
photographic guides to get you started.
Allow plenty of time, too: distances are
long and the gravel roads are tough on
tyres, so don’t rush. Also, beware of the
dust: good gear protection is essential

snap that perfect shot.

ghats of Varanasi are burning.
You won’t be the first to shoot
India, though, so in the more popular
destinations look for the unusual. In
Jaipur and Udaipur, the details on painted
elephants or ancient forts will make
your shots stand out. In Agra, find a new
perspective on the Taj Mahal from the
Mehtab Bagh gardens across the river.
