HOW Millenials exotic destinations , bucket list adventures and festival performances flooding are changing the future of travel

the social feeds of Millennials , it ’ s no surprise that travel has become a top priority for 18- to 35-year-olds . Darrin Thomas , marketing manager of Virgin Atlantic in South
Africa , took three of South Africa ’ s influential Millennials – celebrity blogger , influencer , style icon and TV presenter Roxy Burger ; award-winning singer Kyle Deustch ; and voice of the Millennial and Cliff Central creative director Arye
Kellman – to New York in true Virgin Atlantic style . He returned with first-hand insight into why Millennial travel is on the rise .
Lifestyle Design
Millennials prioritise value and experiences and are thus happy to mix leisure and business travel – even to the extent that they may base entire career decisions around access to travel . Who says you can ’ t combine work and play ? Not Millennials . They live the Virgin Atlantic ethos of “ Life doesn ’ t come to you , so go to it .”
Culture Junkies Millennials are more interested in urban holidays and city breaks than resort destinations and will choose a cultural experience over partying or shopping . With close to 40 destinations to choose from on Virgin Atlantic , the options are endless , including eight daily flights to New York , all with great onward connections .
Social Savvy
Millennials are twice as likely as non-Millennials to use their mobile phones to show travel
pictures to friends , share travel on social media and blog or recount travel experiences online . Virgin Atlantic knows this and looks after Millennials with Wi-Fi on board . The airline will be the only European airline with a fully enabled Wi-Fi fleet by May 2017 – time for selfies and “ check-ins ” over the Atlantic .
International Over Local
Millennials are more interested in international travel than older generations , and as they move into their prime earning years they are becoming more able to pay their own way across the pond .
Millennials are perfectly poised to reshape the economy ; their unique experiences will change the way we buy and sell . A different world , a different worldview . They are the generation that are completely redefining what adventure means and are looking at the world through a more global perspective . Best the rest of us keep up !
