TRAVELLING
Christmas Prague
almost no cages, and it seems that you can
even stroke the animals. In general, it was a
great pleasure to be there.
St. Vitus Cathedral. The Gothic Catholic
Cathedral in Prague Castle, the construction
of which began on November 21, 1344 and
continues to this day. It represents a neat and
beautiful building on the territory on which
there is also a big Christmas fair. In general this
cathedral is the largest and the most
important temple in Prague. Apart from
religious services, coronations of Czech kings
and queens also took place here. The
cathedral is a place of burial of several patron
saints, sovereigns, noblemen and
archbishops.
Praha Zoo. Construction of the zoo
began in 1921 and took 10 years. Initially, after
the discovery, the zoo consisted of 200
animals and occupied an area of 8 hectares
though it was developing and at the beginning
of the XXI century its area was already 60
hectares. This is probably the largest and
most interesting zoo where I`ve been. There
are so many animals and birds that you can
walk for more than four hours! There are

Maybe it will sound a bit childish but be
sure to visit the Hamleys store. This is a three-
stored toy store, inside of which there is a
huge merry-go-round and a slide for the whole
store saying nothing of amazing toys!...
Moreover, on the ground floor you can find the
Lego Museum. As far as I know from the locals,
the founder was British and his love for toys
was just as strong as his goal to see a smile on
little children's faces. So, the store was full of
rag dolls, tin soldiers, rocking horses and other
popular toys, which the kids could see and try
in person. Later the shelves of the store
started to fill up with not only puppets, magic
lanterns and model ships, but also with sports
equipment, cricket bats and footballs. His
business survived during the Great Depression
and World War II to become a world- wide
famous phenomenon in a toy industry. In May
2016, the dream of William Hamley also came
to the Czech Republic. The store at Prague's
famous street Na Příkopě opened its gates
and offered all the customers the unique
concept of a giant toy store merged with an
amusement park. Thousands of toys, loads of
attractions and 4 floors full of fun! That's
Hamleys in Prague - the dream which really
came true!
The last thing I would like to touch upon
is cuisine. Isn`t it a good idea? I should say that
food is terribly tasty there. The favorite dish on
the dinner table is a duck, which is usually
served here with sauerkraut and dumplings,
which, by the way, is also very surprising so
you've got a staple that is an indispensable
part of many Czech Sunday lunches eaten in
the family circle. As for the most famous
sweetness here, it is undoubtedly Trdlo or, as it
is also called Trdelnik. This is a pastry made
from yeast dough, which is wrapped around
the stick in a spiral, baked on a grill, and then
sprinkled with a mixture of sugar and
cinnamon. Oh god! Even a short glimpse of this
desert in my memory gives me goosebumps!
Well, what else can I say? I love to live
through the moments I spent there be they
gustative, emotional or physical. Prague is a
very beautiful, delicious and atmospheric city
especially in Christmas time. It is impossible to
forget because it leaves a lot of bright
impressions. I wish I could come back and stay
there longer...
