A hot spot for premier fitness events
Lake Waconia and the surrounding areas are perfect places for outdoor activities — and the lake has quickly become a popular place to hold running and other fitness-oriented events .
Lake Waconia Triathlon is one of the oldest and most beloved triathlons in the Twin Cities . The event began in 1990 and is held at Lake Waconia Regional Park .
The Lake Waconia Triathlon is a sprint course so participants will swim a 1 / 2 mile in Lake Waconia , bike 20 miles and then come complete a 4 mile run through downtown Waconia and back to the park .
This annual event is limited to 500 participants ,; registration is open and you can register as an individual or team up and do a relay !
It takes hundreds of volunteers to make any large event possible , and the support of volunteers in the past has helped make the Lake Waconia Triathlon a premiere event in the community . Each year , a portion of the venerable Tour de Tonka bicycle event come through Waconia and surround communities . The Tour de Tonka has multiple courses and lengths to fit any level of cyclist , and is held each year in August . Other events for novices and pros alike are held in Waconia throughout the year , including Walk On Waconia , the Lola ’ s Lake Waconia Half Marathon and more .
