OFFICERS' REPORTS

Alice Johnson, ACP

WDALA NALA Liaison

Well everyone, we made it through the holidays! YAY!!! Take a deep breath, roll your shoulders, and just be …. For a little bit anyhow!

When you are feeling guilty about relaxing too much (like most of us get when we goof off too much), take out a tablet and some paper. Write down what you want to get done this year! Nothing is too big or too small to accomplish – after all we ARE paralegals! Whether your aspirations are to read more, learn a new skill, improve on a skill you already have, take an exercise class (Bodypump rocks!), get more involved in your kids’ school or your paralegal organization (hint, hint), go to the NALA Conference this year, take a cooking class, or just try to be on time more often than not (top of my list!), just remember that they are YOUR aspirations. And, quite frankly – whether you accomplish any or all of the items on your list isn’t important. What is important is that you take some time to evaluate where you are – right now at this given time, place, and space – and think about where you want to be! That is the first step of progress.

When you get done, fold up your list and put it away somewhere so that you can pull it out in December and see, just for the fun of it, what you were able to tick off your list. You may laugh at what you wrote down, you may be surprised by what you did that wasn’t on your list, and – who knows – you may have gotten everything on your list done! Kudos to you for whatever you do.

I know this article appears to have little or nothing to do with NALA, or WDALA, or being a paralegal. Appearances can be deceiving! I feel quite comfortable in sending out this message to “do something” to all of you because I know what kind of people you are. You are the kind of people that take that extra step, go that extra mile, and push yourself just a little more. That is the kind of people that paralegals are. We have the added advantage of resources from NALA, WDALA, and our fellow paralegals to further spur us onward toward excellence – personally and professionally!

So – here is to you! May your 2018 be as fruitful and exciting as you can handle!

P.S. I have had a few requests for the White Christmas Pie recipe I wrote about in some of my e-mails to you. This recipe is from my former Mother-in-Law who, sadly, passed away just this past year. For those of you who want to give it a go, here it is!
