What is ESY, and why is it IMPORTANT?
Who Qualifies for ESY
ESY is available for qualifying students to continue working towards meeting and maintaining progress on their IEP goals and objectives. Each state and school district usually has different qualifications that have to be met for the student to be able to attend ESY. This is something that should be discussed at the student’s annual IEP meetings.
Wright's Law is a great resource for parents with children with special needs. It lists six (six!) factors when considering IEP eligibility: regression/recoupment, degree of progress, emerging skills, interfering behaviors, nature/severity of disability, and special circumstance.
