WELCOME
Thank you for considering Camp J! All year we have been hard at work planning the most amazing summer. We
believe in the power of camp and the impact that we can have on our campers. The American Camp Association
has conducted a 5-year impact study exploring the outcomes of summer camp. The study has shown that summer
camp provides a unique learning environment that promotes skills transferable to school, work, and life in the 21st
century. Every activity we offer teaches some of these important skills:
• Arts and Crafts – Creativity and Imagination
• Archery – Patience and Grit
• Athletics – Collaboration and Teamwork
• Cooking – Attention to Detail and Information Literacy
• Music and drama – Confidence and Oral Communication
• STEM – Critical thinking and Technology literacy
• Chugim (elective choice) – Initiative and Independence
Play is a crucial part of learning which teaches youth “how” to learn. We have great activities and special events
but part of the magic at summer camp lies in the in between and unstructured moments. Something truly special
happens when kids have the opportunity to just play. It allows youth to practice how to live and thrive in a
community. Play provides unexpected and innovative ways for kids to find connections to each other, culture,
traditions, and identity. It lets them experiment with who they are and how they want to be viewed by others.
Camp is an intentional experience and we put a lot of thought into what we do.
Whether it’s a great accomplishment or what would seem like a small, unimportant moment, everything that
happens at Camp J is an opportunity to teach and provide meaningful interaction. Our staff is highly trained to be
supportive, build bonds with campers, create community, challenge participants to take positive risks, and engage
in independent decision-making. We know the growth that takes place when kids make their own decisions. That’s
why we are all about giving choices to our campers so they can choose the activities they want to do based on
their own interests. Summer is the perfect opportunity to provide unparalleled opportunities for children to explore,
try new things, be active, build positive relationships, challenge their abilities, take risks, and gain skills while under
the care of nurturing and enthusiastic counselors.
We are in the business of creating lifelong friendships, turning summer memories into lifelong stories, and teaching
and developing lifelong skills.
