Associate Dean Brad Myers Selected to Serve as UND Law Interim Dean
Brad Myers has been tapped to serve as interim dean for the University of North Dakota ( UND ) School of Law by Thomas DiLorenzo , provost and vice president for academic affairs .
Myers , who has served as associate dean of UND Law since 2012 , began his new duties Aug . 1 .
“ I have had the opportunity to work with Brad on the Senate Budget Committee and have been impressed with his knowledge and expertise in budget and tenure ,” said DiLorenzo . “ I look forward to working with him as dean .”
Myers , who holds the title of Randy Lee Professor of Law , has been with UND Law since 2001 and carries a full load of teaching trusts and estates , tax , and business and estate planning in addition to his administrative duties . He earned bachelor ’ s and master ’ s degrees in kinesiology from UCLA , his juris doctor from the University of Oregon , and the LL . M . in taxation from New York University . He practiced law at private firms before joining the UND faculty .
He is active with the state and local bar associations and gives continuing legal education workshops across the state . He also serves on the editorial board for The Gavel .
Myers was appointed by Gov . Hoeven and reappointed by Gov . Burgum to serve as one of North Dakota ’ s commissioners to the
National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws .
“ It ’ s going to be so difficult stepping into Kathryn ’ s shoes ,” said Myers . “ She has so much expertise in the deanship . She developed strong relationships with faculty and staff to create a team approach . I will work to sustain that .”
Myers said his goals as interim dean will be to maintain momentum on current projects , develop new programs , and prepare for the new permanent dean .
“ The faculty and staff are extremely pleased to have Brad selected ,” said Kathryn Rand . “ His work ethic is extraordinary . I don ’ t know of another person in the country who has the same level of teaching and scholarship while serving as associate dean . Brad and I have worked closely together , and he has my full trust , along with the faculty and staff . He brings experience and expertise and very strong commitment to the success of UND Law .”

Maring and Molbert Awarded Prestigious Sioux Award

Mary ( Muehlen ) Maring and Lauris N . Molbert have been awarded the prestigious Sioux Award by the University of North Dakota ( UND ) Alumni Association & Foundation . They will receive the award on Sept . 20 as part of the University ’ s homecoming festivities .
The Sioux Award is the highest honor given by the UND Alumni Association & Foundation for achievement , service , and loyalty . Since its inception in 1962 , this distinguished award has been presented to leaders in government and business , high achievers in various professions , and alumni who have dedicated their lives to service for others .
Mary ( Muehlen ) Maring served 17 years on the North Dakota Supreme Court before retiring in 2013 . For 20 years prior to joining the high court , Maring operated a private practice handling cases in many areas of civil litigation . She served in leadership positions in both the North Dakota and Minnesota Bar Associations . In 1996 , she was appointed by Gov . Ed Schafer to fill a vacancy created by a State Supreme Court Justice retirement . She was elected to two 10-year terms in 1998 and 2008 . Since stepping down from the court , she has served as a surrogate judge . Maring received a juris doctorate degree from UND in 1975 .

Lauris Molbert is the former CEO of TMI Hospitality , a developer , operator , and owner of select-service and extended-stay hotels . The Fargo-based company manages nearly 200 hotel properties in 26 states and employs more than 4,000 people . Prior to his work at TMI , Molbert was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Otter Tail Corporation . He practiced law with the Conmy Feste Law firm in Fargo from 1983 to 1995 . Molbert received his bachelor ' s degree in banking , finance , and accounting from UND in 1980 and a law degree in 1983 .

The University of North Dakota Alumni Association & Foundation named at total of seven honorees for the 2018 Sioux Awards . Other Sioux Award winners include Phil Jackson , ' 67 , HON ' 08 ; Michael Lodoen , ' 65 ; and Jeanne ( Heilman ) Crain , ' 82 . Darren Moquist , ' 00 , and Kayla ( Hoerth ) Delzer , ' 08 , ' 14 , will receive the Young Alumni Achievement Award .
