This year’s recipient was U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp. The first
female senator elected from North Dakota, she serves on the
Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; the
Senate Committee on Indian Affairs; the Senate Committee on
Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; the Senate Committee
on Homeland Security and Government Affairs; and the Senate
Committee on Business and Entrepreneurship. Prior to her
election to the U.S. Senate, she served as director of Dakota
Gasification Synfuels plant, North Dakota Attorney General,
and North Dakota Tax Commissioner.

Jack McDonald was recognized for his many years on
SBAND’s Board of Governors. Jack was elected as the
district representative for the South Central Judicial
District in 2011. He served as president of SBAND
from June 2014 to June 2015. Below Jack, right, is
