Bloody Mary " Sweatshop " ( 2009 )

Oh my god , bring on a goth-core soundtrack , a masked butcher , drunk sexy electro-punk chicks , and gore for days to make this movie . Not only is every character stupid and their deaths well-deserved , but the death styles are very unique and some of them Saw-worthy in tone . Just don ’ t be disappointed when you see the cannibal-vampires and weird sex , however .

So Bad it Looks Good " Neverlake " ( 2012 )

I ’ ll admit , this story sucks . They tried to do something different and edgy and in my opinion , fell flat of the meaning they were trying to stickle on the rushed and confused ending . But the haunting style of the cinematography and beautiful wood environment are gorgeous , the tension is thick as a slab of meat , and the characters interesting enough to keep you hooked until the end . Think of this movie as Edgar Allen Poe-inspired mixed with soap opera drama and " Silent Hill " elements .

Boo-Who ? " The Final " ( 2010 )

Sometimes horror makes you sad , whether you feel sympathy for the victims or the villains themselves - but only " The Final " stood out as one that truly went into the psychology of why those who make others suffer should suffer themselves . The movie makes you feel bad for everyone involved - but with creative ways for the bullies to suffer and interesting character studies , you can be assured that you ’ ll enjoy this movie while having an interesting debate with yourself .

Halloween Must-Watch " Trick ‘ r Treat " ( 2007 )

If Trick ‘ r Treat isn ’ t on your Halloween tradition list , then you ’ re not experiencing the true spirit of Halloween . A great anthology film that centers around a child trick-or-treater named Sam , I highly recommend all of the short films featured in this movie . Get ready for a bloody good piece of fun when you watch this on Halloween night .

Personal Favorite " American Mary " ( 2012 )

I adore the Soska sisters . Their films are stylistic and appealing to any horror fan looking for something unique . But by far my favorite piece of art created by them is American Mary , the story of a surgeon who goes into the dark side of extreme plastic surgery . Wonderfully crafted and with characters that envision the dark side of beauty , this film is a must-see for any horror fan .

Television Spotlight " Penny Dreadful "

With " American Horror Story " disappointing some horror fans with it ’ s newest season , everyone is looking for something different to appease their appetites . Welcome " Penny Dreadful ." While the show has been out since 2014 , the last season just wrapped up in June of this year , so now is the time to binge-watch . I ’ m still surprised that this show hasn ’ t caught on to the mainstream media as much as AHS has . There ’ s great acting , amazing outfits , a wonderful setting , and enough creepy imagery to satisfy any horror appetite . I wouldn ’ t watch it for the story ’ s elements because it does get kind of stupid after season two but I personally didn ’ t mind because the characters developed in a very clever way in response . There ’ s something for everyone , so if you like romantic , weird , gory stories with horrifying imagery and outstanding sets then this show might be just for you .
