PANAMA & COSTA RICA – Explorers ’ Destination
Long before the canal was built that would change the way the world ships goods between the Atlantic and the Pacific this southernmost Central American country proved pivotal in the earliest shipping and commerce in the Americas . Mayan , Aztec , Chibcha and Caribs all had contact in this area . In partnership with Outward Bound Costa Rica , YFU has developed a service-focused program featuring an opportunity to connect concepts and Spanish learned in the classroom with real-life local community experiences .

Panama is the only place in the world where you can see the sun rise on the Pacific and set on the Atlantic . The Panama Canal generates fully one-third of the nation ’ s economy . The phrase , “ A man a plan a canal panama ” is a palindrome .
